engagement ring There was a time wearing engagement rings was a western tradition but with the passage of time to wear an engagement ring by a woman indicating her engagement to be married become a common convention in all type of society in the world.

It is now considered as an official agreement to future marriage. The engagement ring symbolizes the promise of a future together, sealed with the giving and accepting of a ring. It has been around since the 1400s and was first found in Medieval Italy the diamond rings as engagement ring.

From the ancient period to till now generally men give engagement rings to women but nowadays it is common in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Egypt, Europe and some Asian countries that man and woman both buy engagement or promising ring for each other. Again in Bengali tradition sometimes the groom’s parents give the bride some valuables; e.g. gold jewelry or diamond earrings as gift and promise to make her their son’s wife!

In which finger the ring will be placed differs from country to country such as in the UK, it is worn on the left-hand ring finger, whereas in some countries, for example Poland and Ukraine, it is usual for the engagement ring to be worn on the right-hand. On the other hand, by contemporary convention in other countries for instance the USA, the ring is generally presented as a special betrothal gift by a man to his potential bride openly after the woman accepts his marriage proposal.

When any couple making a wedding plan, it is very important to find an engagement ring because a nice engagement ring on the thin finger of a woman could be a symbol of what the guy is actually promising. Not only that but also the ring symbolizes real love and commitment to her.

Obama - An inspiring leader

This is a unique moment. For the first time in the history of America an African American has become the president.

We were supporting and hoping that a change would come and this man, who struggled so much in life coming from a broken home and living in extreme poverty, would win back the White House for the Democrats. He stood up against all odds and stiff opposition to win this historic election. He galvanized the whole nation and got the young and old, whites and blacks all engaged in this process to help him get elected so that he could bring about a change in America and get it out of its crisis. He inspired the people and even those beyond America’s borders. He displayed a rare quality and that was perseverance. Even in the face of verbal attacks, diatribes and racial slogans against him he did not retaliate and never slugged, all throughout the long campaign of almost two years. He really deserves accolade for that, especially when political campaigns are always very nasty. Obama has also proved that despite poverty and hardship a man can achieve what he wants to if he desires. All he needs is hard work and faith. He proved that education is the most powerful tool and he pursued it in the most difficult conditions and reached the top. I sincerely hope he will turn America around and bring about a change, which was his election campaign motto. It is a huge victory for him and a mandate for change.

The US presidential election has reaffirmed my faith in the American democratic process and system. It has sent a clarion message to the world that “Yes we can”. It is time to heal the wounds and win back trust.
